Rahab lies to the guards in Joshua 2:5-6 (And when the gate was about to be closed at dark, the men went out. I do not know where the men went. Pursue them quickly, for you will overtake them." But she had brought them up to the roof and hid them with the stalks of flax that she had laid in order on the roof) - and is praised for doing so in James 2:25 (was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?)

And yet Exodus 20:16 (Thou shalt not bear false witness) Proverbs 12:22 (Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord) and Revelation 21:8 (All liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone) amongst others make it quite clear God does not approve of lying.

It'd be interesting to know how you reconcile this apparent contradiction.
