Three Priorities to Live for God Every Day (and teach others to do the same) – B.I.O.

In my previous post I mentioned what I have been learning and teaching for LIVING ON THE EDGE. One of the simplest yet most transformative of them in the hustle and bustle of life where it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters – is B.I.O.

Do you want to live a life dedicated to God, reflecting His love and truth in everything we do? How can we navigate the challenges of daily life while staying focused on this divine purpose? That’s where the B.I.O. concept comes in—a simple yet powerful framework that can guide us on our spiritual journey and help us lead others to do the same.

What is B.I.O.?

B.I.O. stands for living Before God, In Community, and On Mission. Inspired by the Greek word for life, these three priorities are the cornerstones of a life lived for God.

1. BEFORE GOD: Daily

Romans 1:17 – “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”

To truly live for God, we must start each day by surrendering ourselves to Him. This daily act of devotion involves more than just a morning prayer; it’s living every moment with a consciousness of God’s presence and His will for our lives.

  • Start your day with God: Begin each morning by dedicating your day to God. Open the scriptures and spend time in prayer, asking for His guidance and strength to face whatever challenges may come.
  • Continual communion: Keep the lines of communication with God open throughout the day. Whether through short prayers, focused biblical meditation, or simply being silent in His presence, make it a habit to stay connected with Him.

Application: Make it your habit to start your day with a quiet time devoted to God. Read a passage of scripture, reflect on it, and ask God to help you apply its truths and wisdom throughout your day. Fostering a habit of daily devotion keeps God at the centre of their lives and helps us live at peace in a world of chaos.

2. IN COMMUNITY: Weekly

Acts 2:42-47 – “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer… And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

True Christianity is not a solo journey. Jesus Himself modeled community, gathering disciples around Him and teaching them the importance of fellowship, accountability and mutual support. The early church thrived because believers were deeply committed to sharing their lives, their resources, and their faith.

  • Prioritise fellowship: There is always competition for our time and if we go it alone we won’t last long, but disciples know they must regularly meet with other believers for worship, learning and mutual support and encouragement to live it all out. In a small group, at a church service, over a meal, make biblical fellowship a regular part of your life. We only really grow together.

3. ON MISSION: 24/7

Scripture Reference: Mark 10:45 – “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

God has a unique plan and purpose for each of us, one that goes beyond our personal goals and ambitions. To live on mission is to embrace this purpose, using our gifts and opportunities to love, serve and reach others – to help them find their way back to God and make a difference in the world too.

  • Discover your mission: Have you ever prayed, fasted, asked God to reveal His purpose for your life? He wants to lead and guide you in your career, your community, and your church. Wherever He has placed you, there is a mission field!
  • Serve others: Jesus came to serve, and we are called to do the same. We can all look for practical ways to serve others today, whether through your job, your church, or in everyday interactions. May your life be a reflection of God’s love and grace as we are now the light of the world.

Living the B.I.O. Life

Living Before God, In Community, and On Mission are not just priorities—they are the practices of a healthy disciple. Commit to these three areas to find that your life becomes more fruitful, faithful and fulfilling.
